ADDITIONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT BENEFITS
Fargo Police Department personnel and The City of Fargo contribute to the police pension plan which pays 2.65% of the highest three years of salary (average) multiplied by years of service. Officers are vested into the pension at 10 years of service and can draw from their pension at the age of 49 1/2.
Additionally, there are separate benefits for secondary roles within the FPD:
- K-9 Handlers receive 3/4 hour of their regular hourly wage each day for care and maintenance of the canine during non-work periods
- Police Training Officers receive one hour of overtime each day they are assigned an officer in training
- Community Service Training Officers receive one hour of overtime each day they are assigned an officer in training.
- SWAT, Bomb and Negotiations Officers receive two hours of overtime pay each pay period in which they are available for duty.
- Department Instructors receive one hour of overtime pay per four-hour period of instruction when training occurs outside of normally scheduled work hours
